The Author


Prof. Safnil MA., Ph.D. was born in Koto Kecil village in Lima Puluh Kota disctrict in West Sumatera on 21st. of January, 1961. He completed his undergraduate study in IKIP Padang (the Institue of Teacher Training and Pedagogy of Padang, West Sumatera) on the English Education Study Program of the Faculty of Languages and Arts in 1984. Then, he continued his study to a Post Graduate Diploma on TESL (the Teaching of English as a Second Language) in English Language Institute (ELI), Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand in 1990. In 1992, he studied for his MA program at TESOL Department (the Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages), the Faculty of Education of University of Canberra (UC) in Canberra, Australia and graduated in 1994. His Ph.D. program in Linguistics was done in the Linguistic Department of the Faculty of Arts of the Australian National University (ANU) of Canberra, Australia which he completed in 2001. In addition, Safnil has ever joined a non-degree training on English for Business and Technology (EBT) in SEAMEO-RELC of Singapore in 1995 and an internship program on Language Teaching Center Management in the Economic Institute (EI) of Boulder, Colorado, USA in 1997. He is now a professor in English teaching at the English Education Study Program of Languages and Arts Department of Teacher Training and Pedagogy Faculty of Bengkulu University. His papers have been published in several different journals either in Indonesia, such as in Jurnal Komposisi (UNP Padang), Linguistik Indonesia (Masyarakat Linguistik Indonesia), Linguistika (Universitas Udayana, Bali), Pelangi Pendidikan (BKS PTN Wilayah Barat), Vidya Karya (Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, Banjarmasin). TEFLIN Journal (Asosiasi Guru dan Dosen Bahasa Inggris se-Indonesia), Wacana (Jurusan Bahasa dan Seni FKIP-Universitas Bengkulu), Forum Pendidikan (FKIP Universitas Sriwijaya, Palembang) and Jurnal Sastra Inggris (Universitas Kristen Maranatha, Bandung) or oeverseas, such as in Guidelines (SEAMEO-RELC, Singapore), Australian Review of Applied Linguistics (ARAL, Australia), the Asian Pacific Researcher (Filipina) and Journal of English as a Foreign Language (Hiderabat, India). Safnil also ever won a research grant from SEAMEO-RELC of Singapore to study the quality of English teachers in Bengkulu in utilizing English textbooks in 2002. The books he ever published are ‘Pengantar Analisis Retorika Teks’, ‘Berbagai Cara Sukses Belajar Bahasa Inggris’, and, The Concept of Genre in Applied Linguistics Contexts, published by FKIP Universitas Bengkulu Press.
